Shop Update

First and foremost, apologies for the gap in updates here on the blog. There is lots to catch up on! For those of you on social media please take a look at our Facebook page for RARE Aircraft Ltd. We routinely add photos there as well.

Our current projects are; a Stinson SR-8C, a Jacobs powered Stearman and another Stinson V-77 modified with the installation of a R-985 of 450 hp. The team also recently finished a complete restoration on a Cessna 140. Over the next four weeks updates on each will be published here for you to enjoy.

Our SR-8C project is very close to completion with the final details coming together nicely. The last item we need to finish in order to wrap up the exterior is the engine exhaust. Once the exhaust is finished being fabricated and fit, we can complete the engine dishpan and boot cowl. The main engine cowling and wheel pants were recently completed. Both required hours of metal work and massaging to render perfect surfaces for paint. Also of interest is the amount of time spent scaling the paint scheme from numerous original factory photos. Getting the trim correct is a very important to us. Especially when the trim must compliment the abundance of exotic lines on the Stinson. The trim on the cowling alone is quite a feat. Having to mask a straight line across a curved surface and bumps is quite a challenge! Here are a few photos of the of the trim.

Once this beauty is complete we will be posting several photos and hope to get an air to air photo shoot scheduled. Our goal is to have this aircraft complete by years end. Currently the interior is being completed and installed which, is nothing short of spectacular!

Thank you for checking in and please check back often. We again apologize for the gap in activity here. If there are any particular types of updates, photos or stories you would like to see please let us know!
